Position Overview:
The Sr. GM/Exe. GM – Merchandising is responsible for developing and executing the
merchandising strategy that maximizes sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This
leadership role involves close collaboration with buying, planning, marketing, product, and
retail operations teams to ensure a cohesive and data-driven approach to product assortment,
pricing, and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Merchandising Strategy & Brand Alignment
- Develop and execute a merchandising strategy that reflects the brand’s luxury
positioning and supports growth across retail, digital, and wholesale channels. - Ensure all merchandising decisions are consistent with the brand’s identity, aesthetic,
and values.
- Product Assortment & Buying
- Curate seasonal assortments that reflect global trends, regional preferences, and client
expectations. - Collaborate with designers, global buying teams, and creative directors to ensure the
product selection aligns with both brand vision and local market needs. - Manage OTB (Open-to-Buy) planning and category mix to maximize full-price sell-
through.
- Category Management
- Develop and drive category strategies to optimize product mix, positioning, and lifecycle
management across retail and digital channels. - Analyze category performance, market trends, and competitor activity to identify growth
opportunities. - Collaborate with design, buying, and planning teams to ensure category plans align with
brand vision and financial objectives. - Balance innovation with core assortment to meet customer expectations while
maximizing profitability. - Own the end-to-end responsibility for category P&L, ensuring sustainable growth and
efficiency.
- Inventory & Lifecycle Management
- Ensure optimal stock levels across stores, avoiding over- or under-stocking.
- Drive allocation strategies for flagship locations and high-performing boutiques.
- Oversee markdown strategies with minimal brand impact, ensuring exclusivity is
preserved.
- Client-Centric Focus
- Use client feedback, CRM data, and market insights to tailor assortments and
personalize offers. - Support clientele and VIP strategies through exclusive product curation and limited-
edition launches.
- Visual Merchandising & Store Experience
- Work closely with visual merchandising and retail teams to ensure that in-store
presentation supports storytelling, client journey, and sales conversion. - Ensure flagship stores reflect global and regional merchandising priorities.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing merchandising team with deep category
expertise. - Foster a culture of excellence, creativity, and accountability.
- Data & Performance Analysis
- Analyze sell-through, margin performance, and customer behaviour to inform future
buys and in-season adjustments. - Regularly review KPIs to ensure alignment with commercial and brand goals.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Graduate degree and/or MBA from Tier-20 institutions, luxury retail courses.
- 15+ years of overall work experience, including 3–5 years in a senior leadership
role/relevant experience. - Deep understanding of the luxury client, high-end product curation, and global luxury
trends. - Experience managing merchandising in multi-store.
- Expertise with merchandising tools and systems (e.g., ERP, SAP, JDA, Planning Systems).
